ROBINS MEET RESISTANCE AT REC By Carol Smith-Allen
Coming back from the defeat at Kingstonian was never going to be easy, especially when your next opponents are currently one of the inform sides, and sitting comfortably at the top of the table. However, Blue’s gave a great performance in this hugely entertaining match, and earned themselves a well-deserved point.
The Robins dominated the first 20 minutes of this fast-paced match; having several corners in the first few minutes alone, and a chance to take the lead on 12 minutes but they shot just wide of goal. They also sent in a very ambitious long shot on 17 minutes, which Scott Barrett caught, but in the process of doing so, fell to the ground injured. However, after receiving treatment from the physio he seemed to recover fairly quickly.
Half-way through the first period, Blue’s began to get into the game and started to create some scoring opportunities, the majority being shots by the talented Freddy Eastwood, who was being heavily marked by the opposition. Our best chance came on 35 minutes, when after a good run, Stuart Thurgood put in the cross for Eastwood, whose shot was unfortunately just over the bar.
The second half started as the first had finished, at a very quick pace, but with Blue’s taking much more control of the game. They had three chances to score in the opening 5 minutes, but could not put them away, and for the remaining 40 minutes it was much the same. Blue’s had the majority of the possession this half, more width than in the first, and made some fantastic runs, particularly down the left-hand side, (where they seemed to have discovered a weakness), and with better finishing could have taken all three points. The Robin’s had a few chances too, bringing about some really solid defending by Blue’s Steve Robinson and Dean Bradshaw.
At the final whistle, it finished all square, and although Blue’s had enough chances during the second half to win, (with Carshalton edging the first half, and Blue’s most definitely dominating the second) a point was a good result. At the end of the day, it was just great to see such quality open play, and an excellent ‘team’ performance. KEEP IT UP BLUES!!!

Good performance, especially in second half.
With a bit more quality in our passing we could have won. Carshalton were a strong physical side and it was good to see us competing well.
