DUCKS ON THE RUN by Carol Smith-Allen

Blues recorded their second away win of the season with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Aylesbury on a sweltering afternoon at Buckingham Road.

The first half started with Blue’s having nearly all the possession, and creating plenty of chances but unable to put the ball in the back of the net. However, on 34 minutes the pressure finally paid off when Freddy Eastwood’s shot was saved by Danny Lampton, but Martin Carthy was there to put in the rebound. Aylesbury then picked-up for the last ten minutes of the half, and created a couple of chances, but one went wide and the other over the bar.

The second half started with Blue’s increasing their lead. Before most fans had settled to watch this half (including myself), Stuart Thurgood put a 25 yard ‘grass-cutter’ past Danny Lampton into the bottom corner of the net.

Then followed what can only be described as a bit of a fracas, when one of their players appeared to try and take on the whole Grays bench! This was about the only time Aylesbury showed any fight during the entire match.

Blue’s continued to dominate. With the Ducks being totally outclassed and outplayed, they just did not stand a chance of recovering. Apparently, their subs could be heard saying ‘I can’t believe I’m on the bench when we have this crap in the 1st team!’

There were more chances for Blues with both Martin Carthy and Freddy Eastwood shooting wide of goal. Then on 76 minutes Blue’s got their third to ensure victory, when Freddy Eastwood put in an excellent pass to Danny Hazleden, who when one-on-one with their keeper, kept totally composed to hit the ball home. This then prompted the young Blue’s contingent, (who definitely don’t do sympathy or empathy for that matter) to sing at the top of their voices ‘you might as well go home!’

Almost immediately after Blue’s third, the Ducks had what was probably their best chance of the match; following a free-kick Mel Capleton punched the ball out, there was then a goal-mouth scramble, and eventually Mel made another save.

Aylesbury fans are describing their side’s performance as the worse this season, but although they were quite poor, that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that Blue’s are now playing really well, and look a confident and classy team. KEEP IT UP BLUES!!
