Tue, February 17, 2004. Kick off: 7:45 PM

Reports supplied from the Fans' Forum by Bluesman and Magic...

Bluesman provided the following:
"A real battling performance last night. Started the match without Robbo who was still injured.

We started the match the stronger of the two teams and had some good early chances before Daly put threw a great ball for Opara to score who then went off injured (15mins) to be replaced by Leroy.

Maidenhead had a penalty which Mel saved brilliantly.

Grays were still making the most chances and should of been further ahead by half time.

Hayzeldene injured at half time replaced by Remy and very soon afterwards Eastwood went off injured, replaced by Bradshaw.

Second half Maidenhead threw everything at us and the defence had to be at their best. Grays were still making chances with Leroy and Daly on the right putting some good balls in,Maidenhead playing the offside trap with the assistance of the Lino !!

Remy had a good chance to score but from the clearance Maidenhead broke away and scored.

Now Maidenhead forwards really had their tails up and we had to be strong.
Carthy then had a goal disallowed for offside by that Lino again. Although most of the play was in Grays half there were not that many clear cut chances and Grays fitness was starting to tell and Carthy and Ellis (2) killed the game off.

Impossible to pick a man of the match they all gave their all. "

"I was at the game last nite and after 5mins u could tell the blues were up for it!

Lloyd hit the crossbar and Freddie had a good effort saved. Then a great one two between Wes and Joe saw Lloyd sent on his way and cooly slot past the keeper!

Grays had some more chances with Wes and Freddie both having goal bound shots blocked!

Then Maidenhead got awarded a pen which was saved amazingly by Mel - the ball was going bottom left hand corner but somehow Mel managed to tip it over the bar. Quite an amazing sight!

We continued to play good football but Maidenhead's off side trap caught us out a number of times but with them defending high up the pitch it was only a matter of time before Grays beat the trap and got a one on one chance.

In the 40min Freddie got the chance beat the keeper but was forced wide he tried to cross to Leroy (on for Lloyd who had a back injury) but was cleared!

Then Leroy broke clear and crossed to Freddie but just as the ball was going across the last defender he apeared to handle the ball which caused Freddie to miss kick!

Half time!! Ellis came on for Danny.

Start of second half! Maidenhead pressured Grays for spell of 10mins and scored! We broke straight away and Carthy bundled the ball in the net only to have it disallowed for offside! (Bit dodgy from my angle...)

Freddie limped off and was replaced by Deano. (A late challenge on Fred -- foot injury) In a identical move Carthy scored 79mins! Grays continued to create chances and Leroy and Ellis both had efforts saved!

Then with a minute to go after a bit of pressure from Maidenhead Leroy chased a ball 30 yards which looked to be going out of play skillfully keepin it in he then skined two defenders and played a inch perfect ball to the on-running Ellis who hammered home 89mins!

Not sure who played the ball but a long ball forward saw Ellis beat the keeper to the ball and head it over his head from 20yards on 90mins!

Great performance by the boys - out classed them and deserved the 3 points!

Halifax must be very poor this year if we had this team last year we would of stuffed them!"
