Grays Athletic 5 Wroxham 1 (Friendly - Away)
Sat, August 7, 2004. Kick off: 3:00 PM
EDDIE 'ROX' IT TO 'EM by Carol Smith-Allen
With kick-off being delayed by approximately 20 minutes due to the late arrival of the Grays Athletic team (fortunate for me I might add as I was also late!), and despite the sweltering heat Blue’s produced an accomplished performance to easily defeat the Ridgeons League side by five goals to one.
Blues without a doubt dominated the first half – having the majority of the possession and many more scoring opportunities, and it therefore came as no surprise when they took the lead on 10 minutes. Following some good interplay by Blues, Liam George’s firm shot found the back of the net with ease.
Blues then came very close to increasing their lead with chances for Powell, George and Wild, but against the run of play the Yachtsmen drew level. Matty Neal, whose pace had been causing Blues a few problems, crossed the ball to Gary McGee who finished well.
The best was still yet to come though as a few minutes later Eddie Youds scored a fantastic goal, which left the home fans very impressed. He won the ball in midfield, saw that Steve Lewis was off his line and brilliantly lobbed the ball from 35/40 yards into the top left-hand corner of the net.
The Yachtsmen then came into the game a bit more, but it was Blues who looked the more likely to score again, particularly when George got on the end of Powell’s pass, only to see Steve Lewis get down very quickly to make an excellent save.
Early into the second-half the Wroxham keeper gave a repeat performance of what must be one of his strengths, when he got down quickly again but this time to Stuart Thurgood’s powerful strike. The Yachtsment then pushed forward, but on 53 minutes conceded another goal; under pressure from Grays in the box the ball came off Wroxham’s Jason Carter's for Blue’s third. Six minutes later Blues made it four, when a run started by Eddie Youds finished with John Nutter sliding home.
Straight from the re-start Powell could have made it five, but for Steve Lewis doing his ‘party piece’ yet again to make the save. Substitutions then followed with Carthy, Wilds and Thurgood being replaced by Bradshaw, Mitchell and Olayinka. Overlands had already taken the place of Emberson at half-time. It wasn’t long before Mitchell made his mark by scoring Blues fifth and final goal, and then had a trio of good chances.
Grays Athletic:- Emberson, Bruce, Lunan, Wild, Youds, Thurgood, Brennan, Carthy, Powell, George, Nutter Subs:- Bradshaw, Mitchell, Defratus, Remy, Stimson, Overland, Olayinka

Hi,
A fair summary of the days events. Just a few quick points.
1. It's actually the Ridgeons League now, not the Jewson League!
2. We changed keepers at half-time. The second half keeper was Stuart Parsons.
3. The own goal was actually scored by Jason Carter.
Thought you looked a very good side, with a lot of good players - good luck for the coming season - I'll be keeping an eye out for your results.

Thanks Matt, I'll amend my report. I didn't have time to get a copy of your team sheet, so was just going by what one of your fans told me.
I couldn't keep up with our substitutions, so I had no hope with yours!!!
