UNBEATEN BLUES OVERPOWER BISHOPS by David Jarvis
Grays stretched their unbeaten start to the season to six games with a fine three points against a battling Bishop's Stortford side.
Stortford opened the scoring through Dave Rainford in the first minute after a crossed ball caught the Grays defence looking for an offside decision.
Grays equalised 14 minutes later with Freddy Eastwood scoring from a sweet drive with just the keeper to beat after Martin Carthy had put Mitchell Cole through.
Dean Brennan was booked after 28 minutes. Meanwhile Stortford's Fenton was lucky not to be cautioned for a clumsy challenge.
Stortford had every right to feel aggrieved going into half time after Grays keeper Carl Emberson appeared to catch midfielder Howells in a one-on-one situation.
Nevertheless, Leroy Griffiths put Grays into the lead after 50 minutes from what looked suspiciously like an offside position. Just before that though, Blues had had a goal scoring opportunity denied by the linesman's flag.
Fenton was booked in the second half and should thank his lucky stars that he wasn't booked earlier.
Grays worked hard in the second half to defend the lead and ended up shading it on a night that was a great advert for football at our level.
