A lack-lustre showing by the Blues at Eastbourne Borough’s Priory Lane Stadium completed a disappointing weekend, following after the 2-0 defeat suffered by the second string against Havant & Waterlooville the previous evening. The fact that Manager Frank Gray and his assistant Gerry Murphy kept the squad on the pitch for an hour after the game in an animated discussion showed that they were not happy with the performance. Indeed, it was clear from the start that Eastbourne were eager to capture the scalp of their more vaunted opponents.
Goals from Allan Tait, a brace from Scott Ramsay and a final flourish from Victor Dolista were countered by two strikes from Lee Boylan. Yet with a strong side out, and including new signing, Nathan Moulds and triallist, Dwayne Lee, the Blues were second best to a determined home side. Perhaps this defeat will serve as a wake-up call before the serious stuff begins at the New Rec on the 12th August against Stafford Rangers.
