On a chilly night at the New Rec, Grays felded a side made up of players from both the senior squad and youth teams. A strike from Lee Boylan settled the match in the second half despite a scare late on when the home custodian, Danny Knowles brilliantly saved a penalty to ensure Grays safe passage through to the next round.
The match provided a good workout for the returning club skipper, Stuart Thurgood and other squad players needing match practice, a first view of new signing Ronnie Bull and a chance for youngsters like Woodward and Nelson to taste senior football.
