Match Report by Michael Casey of The Thurrock Gazette

GRAYS maintained their unbeaten run during the pre-season friendlies with a thumping 4-0 victory over Edgware Town on Saturday.

Boss Justin Edinburgh promised after Tuesday‘s victory against Harlow to play a more settled side and so it was, with Craig McAllister and Aaron O'Connor starting up front, Charley Hearn in the middle and the same back four in defence.

Edgware, unlike Margate or Harlow really couldn‘t deal with the gap in class, and failed to produce a chance over the whole ninety minutes.

McAllister looked sharp early on and looked keen to get his first full game under his belt.

With strikes in the 31st and 34 minute, last year‘s top scorer for Woking will have been delighted to hit the back of the net for the first time this season.

Abdou El Kholti has been another player who has looked keen to get his name on the team sheet this season and produced a series of defence splitting passes including one to produce a goal for McAllister that should see him boost his claim.

The only black mark for the first half was a knock for Dennis Oli in the 22nd minute which saw him limp off being replaced by the ever industrious Matt Bodkin. Simon Downer also ended going off injured in the second half.

In the second half, the Blues continued to dominate.

Edinburgh made a few changes including two trialists: Jack Haverson (ex-Bournemouth) and Dane Springer (ex-Charlton).

Luke Woodward came on in the 77th minute.

Woodward has appeared in all the friendlies so far and has shown himself to be keen, alert and talented. He soon re-inforced this with a 20 yard strike that gave the keeper no chance.

Aaron O‘Connor opened his account for the season in the e 80th minute for the first that is sure to be the first of many.

With three friendlies left against Billericay on Tuesday, Orient and Spurs, Grays will be buoyed by the way they are carving out a series of excellent performances
