A Few Words From Justin
June 25, 2007
As you are all aware we have dramatically changed the squad at Grays Athletic, I am delighted with the signings that we have acquired during the close season and feel that we have a young and hungry squad of players, the new players are tried and tested and capable of this level of competitive football, we now have a good balance of players and from Thursday they will be back on the training pitch and will start the transition of getting to know and trust each other.
I would personally like to thank the Chairman, Mick Woodward, for all his help with obtaining the players that I was after; he has pulled out all the stops and made the whole experience run smoothly.
My main aim for next season is to be more successful than the last one and we need to be chasing all the teams in this league, and I firmly believe that we have the squad capable of that, we need to improve our fitness levels and I have brought in Angie Dowds who won the Personal Trainer Of The Year award in 2006, some may have seen Angie‘s work in Football Saved My Life and Biggest Loser, if you have, you will know that she will bring success to the squad and increase their fitness dramatically.
We have been accepted into the Pontin‘s Combination Reserves League for the coming season this will enable us to play in some very competitive games against League 1 and Championship sides which will help the players gain match fitness also enabling the younger players to fill the gap between Youth and 1st team football, this is something that myself and others had been working towards last season, this is a great opportunity for the club and for you the supporters to see some competitive games against higher league opponents.
Our Pre-Season fixtures will give us a great mix of competition and it will enable all the players to get 2-3 games under their belts before the season starts, next season will see the introduction of the new Setanta Shield, this will obviously increase the amount of games that we will be playing but with the increase of fitness and the hunger that the squad have I do not see this as a problem.
I am delighted to report that Jimmy Dack, Gary Phillips & Dickie Harper are staying with us next season and we are also looking to bring in a Chief Scout for next season, Thursday cannot come quick enough.
