Blue Square Announce Player of the Month Winners for August
September 07, 2007
The first ever Blue Square “Player of the Month” awards have been announced, rewarding players that have taken the eye in the first month of the season.
A summer break which saw the leagues take on their new Blue Square names was followed by classic matches and goals aplenty as the competitions got underway in early August.
In the Blue Square Premier the award has gone to Cambridge United summer signing Leo Fortune-West. Leo scored five goals in five games as his new team went on an unbeaten run. The highlight of those five games was a hat-trick in the 5-1 defeat of Farsley Celtic. The Blue Square Premier award is particularly special as it is chosen by fans from a shortlist drawn up by experts including Setanta commentator Paul Parker. Parker had this to say about Fortune-West “Leo has done incredibly well to gel into the team from the off, after a disrupted pre-season. He has helped to lift his team to a position where they can challenge for promotion come May.”
The award in the Blue Square North goes to Danny Holland of Harrogate Town. The striker picked up where he left off last season and netted five goals in five games as Town completed August with a 100% record.
Lewes forward Paul Booth wins the Blue Square South award after finding the net an incredible six times in five games. Remarkably four of those goals were scored from the penalty spot, two of those in the away match at Dorchester.
