Relocation Update
April 13, 2008

grays_ath.jpg Following the announcement that Grays Athletic Football Club are looking to relocate to the Aveley Sports & Social Club Ground, details regarding the new development were on display in the clubhouse following the Halifax fixture, for those who were unable to attend, this is a brief outline of the proposal.

The proposals are based upon the redevelopment of the existing site to form a new twenty-first century sports/leisure park with combined community and residential accommodation catering for a broad demographic, diverse and sustainable occupation. The proposals are conceived to form an exemplar model of regeneration based upon high levels of sustainability and inspired architectural design throughout all aspects of the site.

The development is formed around the principle hub facilities consisting a new sports stadium and leisure centre including a sports hall / gymnasium, two ancillary artificial sports fields and changing facilities, and a further designated artificial pitch area for children‘s use. The existing bowling club is to be retained with the addition of a new pavilion providing upgraded clubroom and changing facilities.

Residential accommodation is proposed to the site formed around the centrally located community courtyard area providing extended accommodation to the hub facilities in the form of a new health centre, children‘s nursery and care home accommodation. Small local shops are also proposed to this central aspect of the site enhancing the village ethos of the development proposals.

Access to the site is proposed by way of a new highways crossing at the junction with the recently completed intersection adjacent to New Tank Hill Road. The existing entrance from London Road is to be retained and designated for light use as a secondary residential route through the site and for emergency access. A principle car parking area is proposed in the centre of the site adjacent to the hub reception and community courtyard areas, with allocation for overflow parking provided to the southern aspect of the site.

The new accommodation is proposed to be highly flexible in terms of its immediate and future use meeting the demands of occupation throughout all aspects of the site. The hub facilities will cater for multi-sports use and diverse leisure, recreational and health requirements. Residential accommodation is conceived to be highly adaptable for a changing demographic including future inter-generation demands.
