Grays ran out 1-0 winners courtesy of a Jack West header away to Brentwood Town on Tuesday night

It took Grays until the 43rd minute to break down a resolute Brentwood defence as good work from Jeff Hammond down the left saw his shot parried by Brentwood keeper Richard Wray before Jack West was on hand to nod home the rebound.

The game was a tightly contested affair with Brentwood showing why their home form has been so good all season.

Grays had chances to kill the game off late in the second half as Brentwood pushed for an equaliser.

The result was doubly important as leaders Maldon & Tiptree failed to repeat their miracle come back from Saturday, losing 2-1 at AFC Sudbury.

Heybridge Swifts also dropped points as they could only draw 2-2 at home with Needham Market, one of the Heybridge goals coming from former blue Grant Cooper.

Grays are now 10 points behind Maldon & Tiptree with 3 games in hand and with both teams set to meet at Rush Green in April, the title could go right down to the wire.
