GAFC - Dagenham & Redbridge XI: Match Preview

Blues entertain a Dagenham & Redbridge XI at Rush Green on Thursday evening, and will be looking to continue the fine form shown against West Ham and Erith Town.

Last weekend, Blues were in action against Kent League side Erith Town, and goals from Jake Hall, Junior Baker, Leon Lalite and Ryan Maxwell ensured a comfortable 4-1 victory.

On Tuesday evening, a Grays Athletic XI containing several first team players lost 1-0 to Harold Hill (formerly known as Mountnessing). The Essex Olympian League side had one-time Grays Athletic and Dagenham & Redbridge player Stephen Demetriou in their line-up. The match was goalless at half time, and with the introduction of a number of youth team players in the second half, the experience of the visitors showed as they scored the only goal of the game at the Academy.

TEAM NEWS
Blues are expected to be at full strength for the match following the absence of Lee Flynn and Danny Bunce last weekend at Erith Town.

The Daggers will be sending a youthful squad to Rush Green, with former Blues Duran Reynolds and Louis Dennis amongst those making the short trip from Victoria Road.

MATCH FACTS
This year is the fourth consecutive pre-season in which the two sides have met, with Dagenham winning 4-0 last year at The Acadmey, and 2-0 at Rookey Hill in 2010. Blues won 2-1 at The Recreation Ground in July 2009.

The last competitive match between the two sides was back in January 2007, with John Still’s side winning 1-0 at The Recreation Ground in a Conference clash.

Blues’ last competitive victory was over six years ago, however it is a memorable one. After drawing 1-1 in the FA Trophy Quarter Final, Blues travelled to Victoria Road and won 4-2 courtesy of goals from Stuart Thurgood, Dennis Oli, Glenn Poole and Jamie Stuart.

CLUB CONNECTIONS
As you can imagine there are far too many to mention, however of the current Blues squad, Joao Carlos, Grant Cooper and Lee Flynn have all spent time with the Daggers. In recent years Billy Bingham, Ian Gayle, Anwar Uddin, Duran Reynolds, Louis Dennis, Stephen Demetriou and Alex Osborn have all spent loan spells with Blues whilst on the books of the opposition.

Admission to the match is £5 Adults, £3 Concessions and £1 Under 10s. No programme has been printed for the match, however a double sided round-up will be available free of charge.
