Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of George Watts

The Club is extremely sad to report that long-term supporter, George Watts, has passed away.
We offer our heartfelt sympathy to his family at this very difficult time.

George could be seen at nearly all our home games as well as at many away trips where he was a regular passenger on the “supporters coach”

He was a Life President of the Grays Athletic Supporters Trust and was instrumental in the club becoming a major seller of tickets for the main charity of the Mayor of Thurrock, the Thurrock Community Chest. This has become a significant fundraiser for the club over recent years.
George was a local councillor for many years and was also honoured to become the Mayor of Thurrock in the 1980s.

He always had words of encouragement for the team, win, lose or draw and typified the spirit of Grays Athletic with one of his mottos – “be cheerful in defeat and modest in victory”.

He will be missed by all who knew him and the club is poorer for losing him.
