Club to expand youth section to accommodate additional teams

Many people in the football community will have been saddened by the news that Thurrock FC are unlikely to be competing in the Bostik League next season and our club has expressed its disappointment at this news, as well as its praise for the magnificent contribution that Tommy South and his colleagues have made to football in the borough.

Thurrock FC have nurtured an excellent youth set up over a number of seasons and they integrated Grays Cosmos FC into their club in the process. They have provided football opportunities for hundreds of children and a good number of them have progressed to playing at a high standard in amateur, semi-professional and professional football.

With the likely change in the senior club's status, a number of the Thurrock Youth age groups may find themselves without a club to associate to or a league to play in. With this in mind and wanting to support the young footballers in the area, Grays Athletic have spoken to the officials of Thurrock Youth and offered the opportunity for their teams/players to join our youth section and continue their football development within our club.

Meetings will take place in the next week or so to establish which of the teams/players wish to take forward this offer and join Grays Athletic. There will also be discussions with Essex FA and current leagues (Eastern Junior Alliance, Echo, Chelmsford, Southend & District, Brentwood Community Football Alliance and the Junior Premier League) to ensure adequate football provision is available to all young players.

As we look to build our youth section further, it is clear that the club need to add to the existing youth officials in order to ensure that the set-up is organised effectively and any new teams joining are integrated successfully. Consequently, we are pleased to announce that, ready for the 2018/19 season, Sullander Singh will be joining the club to undertake the role of Chairman for Grays Athletic Youth. Additionally, Simon Dent will also be moving to Grays Athletic as Secretary to a number of our youth sides.

In terms of our existing structure, Janet will remain as the Club Welfare Officer and will also add further administration/secretarial support to the teams and Phil will continue in his role as Head Of Youth Development.

Grays Athletic is confident in its ability to provide high quality football development for all youth players at all age groups delivered by fully checked & FA qualified coaches. We will endeavour to provide you with an update to this development soon and hope our fans will continue to support our existing youth teams and any new teams that are formed under these proposals.
