Long term club physio makes the difficult decision to step down from his role at the club

Grays Athletic regrets to announce that long term 1st team physio Jack 'O' Hughes has taken the decision to step down from his role at the club.

Jack joined the Blues five years ago originally working under Hakans managerial set up, and was part of the Ryman Division One North promotion winning side, and has been an integral part of the clubs management team since.

In an earlier statement released on the unofficial fans forum, Jack said:

"I would like to take this oppurtunity to announce that going forward I will be stepping down as the 1st team physio.

Due to personal and career purposes I have made the decision to take on a new adventure which if I am honest has come a few years earlier than expected but one that I feel I need to make to progress in the field. This decision has been the hardest decision I have had to make in a very long time and it is not one in which in which I have taken lightly.

Grays Ath has been a huge part of my life for just under the best part of 5 years and will continue to be I have no doubt in that. I have had many memorable memories working for such a great friendly club that has a wonderful history, a history which I can now say I was part of and proud to be at that.

This club would not be as great as it is if it wasn't for those that continue to give up their evenings, weekends bank holidays you name it there is always someone working around the clock to keep this great club running and it is those that I would like to thank for such an enjoyable few years at the club.

Firstly I would like to thank Andy, Joel and Danny for giving me the oppurtunity in the first place and continuing to support me in everything that i wanted for the club. I would also like to thank Hak and Has for giving me the oppurtunity to be a part of what they had planned at the club and it is the 2nd year of my time at the Ath that I will forever cherish. To win the title in the way we did will always be the highlight that sticks out for me and my momento of this proudly sits on the mantel piece (I don't have a mantel piece) but you get the idea.

I would also like to thank all previous managers that have allowed me to work alongside them none more so than Benno and Glen the two of which will go on to achieve even greater things in the game than what they already have done. Then there's Sim (Rhino) I will miss the long away days to Needham on a Wednesday night with your constant moaning that you have work to get to as soon as you get home zzzzz and the sweets! :) every club needs a Rhino or a Sim should I say. Every club also needs a Dave and thank you for all your help to 'The Rave' your passion and desire for this club is second to none. Then i move on to the players I have worked with and although it would take me an age to thank the hundreds I have treated in my time here but I would personally like to go on to mention Beaney, Lamar and Carlos who were at the club when I started. It has been a pleasure having to baby you lads, I will certainly miss the banter we had on match days and that goes for all the players and ex Players that still stay in touch today you know who you are!

Lastly and most importantly this club as I mentioned earlier will not be where it is today without the help and support of those volunteers that give up their time to help out wherever they can with the running of the club. To mention a few a big thanks to Keith, the packers, the Pophams, All the Steves, Fred, Glynbo, Glyn Jarvis, Phil, Michael, Chris, Rob, Kim..... The list is endless and I could be here all day naming you all. Keep up the good work and hopefully one day I'll have the oppurtunity to come back. In Jamie you have the oppurtunity now to get this club back where it belongs and I wish you all the best.

Up the blues!

Everyone at Grays Athletic would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Jack for five years loyal service. The club would like to thank Jack for his excellent professionalism and medical knowledge.
