Blues make the long journey to Clacton-on-Sea in the Essex Senior Cup tonight as Jody Brown renews old acquaintances

The Blues are in cup action tonight as they head to FC Clacton for an Essex Senior Cup 3rd Round tie.

Grays go into the game on the back of an impressive away win at Tonbridge Angels in the league last Saturday while FC Clacton lost 4-2 to Ely City in their league, a result that sees them currently lying 16th in the division. For the last meeting between the clubs you have to go back to the early stages of the FA Cup in 1996 when The Blues beat Clacton Town, as they were then known, 6-0 at the Recreation Ground.

Although Jody Brown has named a strong squad there are expected to be several changes to the side that won at Tonbridge on Saturday, hinting that there could be as many as six changes to his starting eleven which will give some players a chance to impress. Despite making an appearance from the bench at the weekend Glen Little is rested as he continues his recovery from a metatarsal injury and trained with the u21s under the supervision of David Raven and Jack Hughes last night.

The squad travelling to Clacton is expected to be:

Gough, Glowacki, Siva, Zefara, Leader, Parry, Bentley, Dark, Wilson, Bryan, Carlos, Beaney, Dumaka, Ladapo, Guy, Marfo.

Despite the expected changes, Jody Brown was keen to point out FC Clacton will be a tough opponent and said "Knowing Clacton as I do, I won't be underestimating the challenge or the atmosphere we will face, but it is important that players get minutes and the chance to show their desire to start on a regular basis."

FC Clacton currently competes in the Thurlow Nunn (Eastern Counties) Premier League and play at the Rush Green Bowl, a name familiar to Blues fans, albeit at the other end of the county. In the last round, The Seasiders beat Waltham Forest 3-0 in front of 54 fans at home. The goals come courtesy of Adam Daniels, Terry Rymer and defender Steve Downes. One player that manager Glenn Eldridge has at his disposal is Aaron Condon who has 11 goals so far this season and has previously played for Needham Market and Maldon & Tiptree, so the Grays defence will have to be on their guard if he starts.
