Grays Athletic v Bury Town
By Michael Parker

This Wednesday evening, Grays Athletic are in Ryman Premier League action against Bury Town, from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Both teams will be looking to get back to winning ways after defeats last Saturday. Grays lost 1-0 at home to Bognor Regis Town while Bury suffered a 4-1 reverse at Metropolitan Police.
Games in recent years have gone much the way of the visitors with the overall record taken the graysath-online.com statistic website showing that we have met 6 times. Bury have won 3 of the games, Grays 2 (this includes one friendly) and a solitary draw in the FA Cup away in 2010. Last season see three of these meetings with a heavy 5-1 away defeat for Grays in the FA Trophy but honours were shared in the league with a 4-3 win for Grays at Millfield and a 2-1 away defeat at Ram Meadow. The Grays defence should probably be on their guard as well as over the six games, Bury have averaged exactly 3 goals per game!

The overall record obviously does not make happy reading for us Blues fans but what has happened to both teams this season? The current league table shows that Grays currently have the upper hand sitting in 8th place with 17 points while Bury are currently just above the relegation zone thanks to goal difference in 20th position with 11 points so far, but it is obviously early days yet. Bury are also in 20th position do the last 6 game form guide while 4 wins in the last 6 league games have the Blues in an impressive 3rd place behind the relative giants of this division, Margate and Maidstone.
In player news, Bury manager, Ben Chenery has recently looked at the loan market to strengthen the squad. Striker Ayrton Bevins has come in for a month from League 2 Cambridge United and Ipswich Town player Jack Willbye has also been acquired recently as well.

In the Grays Athletic team, Manny Parry could return from suspension and the squad could also include the intriguing signing of Joseph Zerafu. The Maltese international has made 2 appearances as a substitute for his country and could be in the Grays squad on Wednesday evening. Another signing who might not get international clearance in time is Ben Sampayo, who last see action for Greenock Morton in Scottish football. One player who won't make the team is Joe Benjamin who is injured and Aaron Best is currently rated at 50/50 to be fit for the game.

Kick off at Mill Field is 1945 this Wednesday evening.
