Congratulations to AFC Hornchurch who won the Essex Senior Cup tonight ending the Blues run of seventeen wins in a row.

The Weekend went out with a bit of a whimper, as the newly crowned Ryman North champions never really got into the game against the Conference South outfit. Take nothing away from the Urchins, they did a job on us, the two teams know each other well, having shared a friendly win apiece. Baker is always a threat at set-pieces they blocked and man-handled every time, threat nullified. Joao Carlos scored a cracker against them pre-season, tonight they closed him out. Craig Pope is a threat going forward, but tonight they had him going backwards. The first time he got forward he put the ball across for Jared Small to put Grays Athletic in front, within thirty seconds Lewis Smith, a threat all night had them level. Shortly afterwards Smith again on hand to put Hornchurch in front. Grays have finished strongly all season, Kenny Beaney had the ball in the net, but the linesman's flag was up early to cancel it out. The boys are disappointed they didn't give a better account of themselves tonight. They shouldn't be, when we won at Concord in the Semi-Final the Senior Cup was all that we realistically had to aim for. Sixteen league wins later they have won the league, the double didn't happen, but there's always next year.
The sight of seven or eight hundred Blues fans cheering the team to the final whistle is one we have not seen in a while, it makes you proud to be involved when you see such support. We are just sorry we couldn't give you the result you all wanted.
