Thamesmead Town - GAFC: Match Preview

Thamesmead Town - GAFC: Match Preview

Chris Jones17 Feb 2012 - 23:04

Blues head to Bayliss Avenue tomorrow, home of Thamesmead Town, and will be looking to avenge the 2-1 defeat at Rookery Hill at the end of October.

Thanks to the weather, we’ve been without a game since 28th January; a 1-0 home defeat against Maldon & Tiptree. That result left us four matches without a win, and the last time that happened was in October 2010, in fact that run went on for seven matches.

Like us, the opposition haven’t been in the best of form, having picked up 7 points from their last 6 matches. There have been defeats to Waltham Forest, Maldon & Tiptree and Cheshunt, a draw with Leiston, whilst they have wins over Romford and Soham Town Rangers.

Junior Baker and Steve Northwood are two Blues who have in the past featured for Thamesmead.

TEAM NEWS
Recent signings Nathan Gordon and James Bunn are expected to feature, whilst there are no new injury concerns for the Blues.

Keith McMahon bolstered his striking options for Thamesmead this week as he signed 20-yard-old striker Jack Pallen from Conference South side Dartford. The youngster came through the Dartford youth ranks and has had spells with Chatham Town, Dover Athletic and Maltese side St Patricks.

Depending on other results, Grays could climb as high as 4th or drop to 8th. Thamesmead could climb two places to 10th (9th if there was a 12 goal swing), or drop as far as 16th.

MATCH FACTS
This is the 4th meeting between the two sides; Grays have won two and lost one so far. Last season we did the double, winning 4-1 at home courtesy of goals from Eljay Worrell, Alex Osborn, John Docker and Stephen Demetriou, whilst a Jason Fontaine first half double secured a 2-0 away.

In the match earlier this season, Thamesmead won 2-1 in October. After taking a first half lead, the visitors were pegged back by a Bradley Thomas equaliser in the 88th minute. A minute later they were back in front thanks to a penalty from Ashley Proberts.

MILESTONES
Joao Carlos has featured in every league match this season, 27 starts and 1 substitute appearance.
Joe Sweeney needs one more goal for his 10th for the club.
