Blues register third pre season win

Blues edge out 10 man VCD writes The Mariner

Blues 2-1 VCD

Blues edged out 10 man VCD writes The Mariner in a game that rarely sprang into life.

Pre season games are about sharpening fitness and getting the right shape for the coming seasons campaign.Performance in these games cannot be relied on as a clue to a teams prospects so in that respect todays patchy performance should not be taken as a guide to the Blues own expectations.

Goal scoring chances were few and far between, the first real effort on goal came from a corner Jake Hutchings seeing his header fly just over.At the other end Blues stopper Charlie Crowley made a sharp save from a VCD snapshot .

The visitors were allowed to play the ball out from the back as the Blues front line failed to pressure the ball something that will surely be addressed in the remaining friendlies.

There were some pockets of neat interplay from the Blues with Aaron Wickham linking the play, as he builds up his fitness levels he could be a key player this season.

Annoyingly Blues front men were guilty of straying offside on numerous occasions undoing the good approach work from midfield which restricted any goalscoring opportunities.

HT 0-0

The first goal of the game came early in the second half courtesy of David Fallah and it was his initial break at pace that led to the goal.

Fred Obasa then had a golden opportunity to increase Blues advantage when springing the visitors off side trap he rounded the visitors keeper and with the goal at his mercy inexplicable rolled the ball wide of the post.

Blues were to pay for the miss minutes later when VCD levelled the scores after a kind deflection found their man who made no mistake beating substitute keeper Seb Brown.

The game which had been played in good spirit suddenly erupted into violence when Aaron Wickham and a VCD player squared up to each other with the Vickers man completely losing his cool, both sets of players tried to calm the situation, unfortunately for the VCD man he was shown a red card.

Blues grabbed the winning goal after good work out wide by Fallah allowing Alvin Macauley to slot the ball home from close range.

So another win and once again a chance for the coaching staff to run their eye over squad players and trialists.Blues now have two remaining games before the season starts the first on Wednesday evening against Tilbury in the Stan Veness trophy.
