Grays Ath travel to Canvey again, having defeated Concord Rangers 3-2 on Friday 29th July. This time the Blues will face old foes, Canvey Island FC in a pre-season friendly.

Grays have failed to beat the Gulls in the last eight meetings, with Canvey winning six and the other two being draws. The last time the Blues were victorious was on 4th April 2002, winning 2-1 at Park Lane in an Isthmian Premier match.

John Batch's side have had a mixed pre-season so far, recording wins over Heybridge Swifts (4-0) and Bowers & Pitsea (6-1), losing 2-1 against Dulwich Hamlet and most recently 3-1 against Dartford. The rest have been goalless draws at home to Wivenhoe Town, Chelmsford City and Southend United.

Canvey Island finished sixth in the Ryman Premier League last season, missing out on the play-offs to Harrow Borough on goal difference. Alex Rhodes, who had two separate spells with us in the Conference, once in 2006/07 on loan from Brentford and again in the 2009/10 season now plys his trade for the Gulls, along with another ex-Blue, Danny Kerrigan.

Meanwhile, with the exception of a few players, Hakan will be looking to field his strongest team which includes Daggers winger Tyler Campbell. Campbell progressed through Histon's youth setup before signing for Dagenham & Redbridge via a number of non-League clubs.
