It was honours even at Rookery Hill, as Hakan Hayrettin’s Grays Athletic came back from a goal down to secure a point in a physical match.

Blues old boy David Cowley lined up for the visitors just four weeks after leaving Grays and it was his free kick on the edge of the area that opened the scoring after three minutes. He curled the ball around the wall and into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Junior Baker was adjudged to have committed the foul and was booked for his efforts.

With a number of decisions going against the home side, Blues picked up four yellow cards before the break.

The equaliser came from Craig Pope as he met Harry Agombar’s corner with a glancing header which beat Bertrand Bossu in the Harlow goal.
Louis Dennis and Joao Carlos both had guilt-edged chances to win the game, and Harlow will count themselves unlucky, as they hit the bar in the closing minutes. In all, a point apiece was probably a fair reflection on the game.

The point each keeps Harlow and Grays in 4th and 5th respectively, with the closing pack breathing down their necks. Tilbury won 2-0 at Ware to go level on points with The Blues, whilst AFC Sudbury were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Great Wakering Rovers, and Brentwood Town picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Potters Bar Town.

The top three all won, with leaders Leiston winning 4-2 at home to Romford, whilst second placed Enfield Town got all three points in a 2-1 win at Waltham Forest. Needham Market in third won 4-2 at home to bottom placed Ilford to move three points ahead of Harlow in fourth.

Redbridge sit just three points outside the play offs as they beat Blues’ next opponents Soham Town Rangers 3-2 at Oakside.

There are four games on Tuesday evening, and we could be disposed from our current playoff spot as both AFC Sudbury and Brentwood Town will expect to win their respective fixtures.
