Chelsea, Arsenal, Braintree Town, Ilford
Young midfielder joins the Blues.
“I can’t wait to roll my sleeves up and get going”
Watkins came through several London youth academies including Chelsea and Arsenal, before joining Braintree Town in early 2015; ending the season on loan to Ilford in the Essex Senior League.
An impressive season playing for Braintree Town reserves in the Eastern Counties League saw him catch the eye of manager Danny Cowley, signing first team forms with them in February of this year, before joining Canvey Island on loan.
After being made aware of his availability, Blues manager Jamie Stuart wasted no time in signing the youngster, who turned 18 just last week.
On joining the club, Watkins said:
“It’s a pleasure to be part of this new era at Grays Athletic, and with the manager showing his interest in me after just two training sessions, I know this is the place for me.
“Jamie’s coaching is also a big factor in me deciding to join. I can’t wait to roll my sleeves up and get going”.
