Grays Athletic Youth U12 finish Runners up
Grays U12‘s were competing in the U13 category at today‘s tournament.
Despite this obvious disadvantage, and the heat, the boys put on a great display of football, proving that bigger doesn‘t automatically mean better!
Grays U12‘s won their group stage, not losing a game in the process, and were hoping to meet Grays Athletic Youth U13‘s in the semi final or final. However this was not to be as the U13‘s failed to qualify from their group.
The boys put on a great performance in the Semi final, even though the temperature by now was at least 25c. Despite going a goal down, Grays rallied, and played some fluent passing football, winning the game 3 - 1.
After a long and sometimes difficult season It was great to see the boys enjoying their football again and playing with smiles on their faces.
The final was against Teale, a team from Reading. This time despite a brave and solid Gray‘s performance, the strength and pace of the older boys showed through.
Alex pulled off some superb saves, but despite his brave efforts, he was powerless to stop their forward, who was as tall as some of our parents, from scoring.
Grays finally lost the match 3 - 0, but were not disgraced and full credit to Teale who applauded our performance at the end.
A great performance boys, we are proud of you all.

Grays Athletic u8 Lions 1 Aveley YFC Lions 0
Goalscorer: Charlie
After finishing our season and a few weeks off, we went back to a friendly today, which was a very strong game. We moved players around today due to injuries and trying new players which brought Charlie out on pitch instead of in goal.
The game was very strong as Aveley are a good team. Half time was 0 - 0. The second half saw Charlie put in a excellent header and bagged us the win. This was the first goal for Charlie as he is normally in goal. Even though this was a friendly all the boys played their hearts outand had a really good game.
Well done boys, keep up the hard work, looking forward to the next friendly.
Under 15 EJA League Challenge Cup Final
April 16, 2008, 10:10 PM
Grays Athletic 1 Cornard United 1 (A.E.T Cornard won 3-1 on penalties)
Goalscorer: Matthews
After a nervous start and loss of one of Grays centre backs through injury, Grays reshuffled and started to impose themselves on the game. Their pressure was rewarded 30 minutes into the first half when good work down the left by Bazely and Cranefield led to Matthews beating the on rushing Cornard keeper to flick the ball over his head and into the empty net.
2nd half started with Cornard throwing everything at Grays without threatening us in front of goal. Midway through the half Grays got an injury to one of their back four and from the resulting attack allowed Cornard to break free and equalise. Grays game back into the game and had chances to win it in the dying minutes of the game.
So it went to extra time, and Grays were back on the attack bombarding the Cornad goal, having the ball cleared off the line and hitting the post. Both team had opportunities to win it in the 2nd half but both failed to take their chances. The game ended 1 all, with the consensus of opinion that had Grays taken their chances they would have won this game with ease.
But to penalties we went and after the first two penalties we were 2 down with both ours hitting the post and crossbar. Their 3rd penalty was well saved by Franklin in the Grays goal and Eggleton reduced the deficit. However it wasn‘t to be on the night and Cornard ran out 3-1 winners on Penalties.
It was a great effort by Grays who were a credit to the club for their performance and which will hold them in stead for next season. We would like to thank all those who turned up and supported us on the night.

Grays Athletic “U21” 5 Oval 1
This inaugural match took place on Thursday April 3 at Ford Sport & Social Club - there was a minute‘s silence before the game in memory of Conor Malone who had been a League Representative for the Chelmsford League, The father of Alan Daly the Oval‘s captain & Katie Johnson.
What an emphatic victory, great credit must go to each individual player for the performances in the run up to and particularly including the cup final, it was a superb night as a whole conducted with a high level of professionalism from everyone associated with the under 21‘s and Grays Athletic Football Club.
With a fully fit squad our performance on the night was exceptional from back to front. It‘s hard to single out lads but credit must go to our centre half Ryan Chamberlain for his man of the match display.
Our penetration from back to front was breath taking at times, therefore looking like scoring with every attacking play.
With an outstanding goalkeeper in Simon White behind the back four we were able to express our forward play.
Our front line lead by Ben Lambert and Tommy Steel was immense throughout the game, with a goal each. Solid hard work from Joe Cable and Bradley Mumford (who were also both on the score sheet) in the centre of midfield gave our defence the protection it wanted, as well as their distribution of the ball that was a big factor in the victory, with Liam Chaplin rounding off the goals, credit must go to all the squad.
Grays Athletic: Simon White, Lee Atkinson, Ryan Chamberlain, Steve Garrad, Darryl Morely, Tom Street, Bradley Mumford, Joe Cable, Liam Chaplin, Tommy Steel, Ben Lambert, Lee Bellinger, Ronald Asante, David Coker, Richard Ajayi. Manager. Bill Mumford, Coach. Billy Mumford, Mascot Jamie Mumford.
Well Done Lads!!

Grays Athletic 0 Ilford FC 2
Both teams approached the match in a positive manner until the 43rd minute when Ilford broke away & crossed from the far side for the ball to be slotted into the back of the net
2 minutes later on the stroke of half time Ilford broke away again & took a 2 nil lead
In the second half Grays showed great resilience & put the ball in the net only for it to be ruled out for off side
Grays battled on throughout the second half but it was not to be their evening however both sides showed great sportsmanship in applauding each other off the field

A excellent second half display from Grays after going in at half time all even at 0-0, The team performed some text book football to score four excellent goals to scupper Dagenham chances of making the final.
