An unlucky result for Grays today as we actually scored 2 but the linesman said the first goal didn't cross the line. We should have actually won the game by at least 6 goals but it was just another day when we couldn‘t find the back of the net.

Stanford Wanderers 8 Grays Athletic 1
Goalscorer: Ero

Once again Grays Athletic came off as a poor second, they have yet to win a game this season, having taken the lead after 4 minutes the team lost their formation and footing and went dow 3-1 by the first half, second half they switched from 3-5-2 to a more defensive 4-5-1 but still let Stanford dominate in sections and bag a further 5 goals, Manager Kevn Lamb is totaly bemused by this team, they play some great football with flair but continue to get broken down through the midfield, it seem as though we have 4 defenders and everyone else wants to be a striker, looks like it is back to the drawing board with the team.

Grays Athletic 3 Interwood 4
Goalscorers: Rykie, Own goal, Onye

Grays lost their first match of this season.
Interwood started the match at 100mph. Grays were still asleep.

Interwood were 3 - 0 up and coasting by half time, although not realising that it was 35 minutes each way cost grays dearly as 2 of the goals were conceded in the last 5 minutes of the first half.

The second half was a much better affair.

Rykie scored within 4 minutes of the restart, a fine run and shot from the right. The keeper got a hand to it but couldn‘t prevent the goal.

A free kick on 22 minutes saw a scramble in the box, with Onye applying the finish.

On 28 minutes another free kick was awarded to Grays, with Interwood clearly rattled. Rykie took the free kick, a bit of ping pong saw the ball in the net for Grays, Shay having the last Grays touch, but an Interwood own goal.

Not learning the lessons of the long first half Grays conceded number 4. Interwood by now resorting to hopeful long balls, and on 32 minutes it paid off.

League Cup, Round 1

Grays Athletic 4 Lee Chapel Youth 0
Goalscorers: Ryan(2), John.A, Jacob

Grays played a great 1st half of football, scoring 3 goals. 2 goals scored again by striker Ryan (1 with his foot and the other with his head!) and John A scoring his 1st competitive goal for the team. The 2nd half was a bit muted by Grays but Lee Chapel came out and played on with a lot of spirit and good defending. Jacob scored Grays‘ 4th goal just before full time. They boys know they need to play better football if they are to go further in this competition. However, today they beat the team who knocked them out in the 1st round of the cup this time last year - so things can only get better!!!

Grays Athletic 9 Woodford Youth "C" 1
Goalscorers: Price (hat-trick) Edmunds (2) Stopher (2) Bearman, Klessa-Smith

Well what can i say about this fixture. The Grays team produced their best ever score against a previously unbeaten Woodford team (4 wins and 1 draw). All the boys did exceptionally well today with some of the passing moves outstanding at times, especially the wing play.

Grays scored after 1 minute when Bearman tucked away the ball at the far post. Edmunds then got a second 9 minutes in after a Bearman shot was parried by the keeper. Edmunds then set up Price for the third after 11 minutes. Grays then scored 2 in 2 minutes from Stopher and Price both being laid on by S.Pumfrett. Woodford scored from a breakaway but Grays soon added to the score when Price completed his hat-trick a minute before half-time. There was no let up from the boys in the second half with Stopher adding a seventh 2 minutes in after being allowed to run through the defence before shooting hard and low. S.Pumfrett laid on Edmunds' second after 9 minutes and Klessa-Smith completed the rout after 14 minutes from a great Edmunds run down the wing.

Man-of-the Match was awarded to the whole team for their fantastic effort today, keep it up !

Thundermite League

Grays Athletic Blue 8 FC Redwing Hawks 0
Goalscorers: Gould (4), Jex (2), Bundock, Birch

Grays continued their impressive start to the season with a convincing win over FC Redwing. Four goals in either half, including a “special” effort from Gould, were due reward for the abundance of possession Grays had throughout. Some of the intricate passing, especially in the final third, was outstanding and with Chegwidden and Harrison providing a solid defensive base Grays confidence is growing week by week.
