Grays Athletic lost for the 5th time in succession but showed great determination in a match that flowed from end to end, a few missed chances and loss of control from the defence cost us the match today but each player put in 100% effort, if they can build on this performance then they will turn the corner and deliver a win.

Buckhurst Hill 5 Grays Athletic Youth 0
Grays knew before the match that there were only ever going to be 8 or 9 players available for this match.
Despite this, when asked, the boys elected to play it rather than concede the points.
The 9 boys that turned up and played today can be proud to wear the badge of Grays.
Although outnumbered, Grays pressed, but the ball continually came back at them. Buckhurst Hill resorting to playing long balls over the top to go into a 2 - 0 lead. A volleyed goal from a corner was the only moment of lapsed Grays concentration in the first half.
Buckhurst Hill added another goal to go 4 - 0 up
Half time Buckhurst hill 4 - 0 Grays Athletic Youth
The Grays performance in the second half was spirited, coming close on a couple of occasions to scoring.
Buckhurst Hill showed their respect by never leaving less than 3 men back despite being at a 2 man advantage.
Constant pressure and tired legs resulted in Buckhurst Hill scoring the solitary goal in the second half, a rare escape from their own half.
The rematch (with 11 boys each hopefully) should be an interesting affair.

Robin U11 Cup 1st Round
LTD Wildkatz 1 Grays Athletic Girls 2
Goalscorer: Pritchard 2
Grays Girls had to dig in hard for the result with only being 1-0 up at half time thanks to Prichard the Wildkatz leveled the score early in the secone half but the girls stepped up a gear giving themselves a handful of chances before they added to the scoresheet far a 2-1 victory.
Player of Match: Pritchard
Signet United 1 Grays Athletic 7
Goalscorers: Ryan.B(4), Ryan.S(2), John.A
Grays Athletic Under 11's were away to Signet United. We had another slow start but eventually the goals slowly came! The 1st scored by Ryan B (1 on 1 with the keeper) and the 2nd by Ryan S (a cracking left footer). This was how the 1st half ended up. The 2nd half seemed to have more pace by both teams and Ryan B scored another 2 goals to make it 4 - 0 to Grays. Signet then scored making it 1 - 4, but 3 more goals came from Grays - Ryan B, Ryan S and a goal from John A. We were without our normal goal keeper for the game so it was up to Rob (our tallest boy and team captain!!) to wear the number 1 shirt for the game. Rob done an excellent job in keeping the goal keeping area covered throughout the game. All in all a good game played by both teams and the final score was 1 - 7.

U10 Friendly (Saturday 20th Oct)
Grays Athletic Yellows 3 Grays Athletic Blues 2
Goalscorers: Price, Stophe, Edmunds, Gianni (2)
This friendly was arranged as the Blues had a free weekend.
The Yellows won for the second successive game between the 2 teams , winning 3-1 last year.
The Blues took the lead from a strike by Gianni but the Yellows soon equalised through a solo effort from Price.
Stopher put the Yellows into the lead with a sweet left foot drive after Klessa-Smith had hit the crossbar. Edmunds struck the third after a cutting pass between two defenders by S.Pumfrett. Gianni got his second goal from close range near the end but the Yellows held out.
U10 Echo League Trophy 2nd Round
Grays Athletic 3 Bealonians A 3 (Bealonians winning 3-2 on penalties)
Goalscorers: Price (2) Klessa-Smith (pen)
Grays were dumped out of the cup despite a spirited second half comeback.
Unbeaten Bealonians showed why they were 2 divisions higher with a solid first half display going into the break 2-0 up. Bealonians added a third early in the second half and Grays were looking at a convincing defeat.
Price added what we thought was a consolation goal from close range but Grays pulled a second back from a Klessa-Smith penalty shortly afterwards. The comeback was completed when Price struck home a fierce low shot from outside the opposing penalty area. The game ended all square but had to be decided by penalties. Unfortunately Grays missed 3 penalties and their cup run for this year was over. All credit to the boys for a great effort in the second half.
