County Cup

Grays Athletic U16A 0 Dagenham & Redbridge 1

Grays Athletic U16A played at home against Dagenham & Redbridge in the second round of the County Cup. Despite the fact that Dagenham, formerly Westward A, won the Premier Division of the Echo League last year, Grays put in a terrific performance and only went out to a late goal. The boys played today exactly how we knew they could, hopefully this is the kick-start to our season.

Man of the Match: Osonowo.

Chelmsford League

Grays Athletic U16B 2 Romford Borough 0
Goalscorers: Kingdom, Rydings

Grays Athletic U16B beat Romford Borough 2 - 0 at home. Grays played really well in the first half and went a goal up early on from Kingdon but eased off quite a bit in the second half. Rydings scored our second goal right on the final whistle.

Joint Man of the Match: Rydings and Kingdon.

Grays Athletic 2 Ockendon Rhinos 4
Goalscorer: Timothy(2)

Grays Athletic failed to capitalise on a 2-0 halftime lead, Ockendon fired straight after the whistle and drew level after a penalty was given for handball in the area, Grays then started to lose their shape even after one of the Ockendon players was sent off for violent conduct and they struggled to reform allowing Ockendon to slot 2 further goals past them.

Essex County Cup

Grays Athletic 12 Galleywood Eagles 0
Goalscorers: Charlie, Onye, Aaron (4), Tyler (2), Mitchell, James, Lewis (2)

Grays headed into this match will only 10 players, but put on an efficient display to comfortably romp to a convincing victory.

Grays started the scoring in the second minute with Charlie netting, and finished the first half 8 up, with Aaron bagging 4.

Half time Grays 8 - 0 Galleywood Eagles.

A further 4 goals were added in the second half with Mitchell scoring his first for the club. Lewis will claim the last 2 due to the lack of a dubious goals panel.

ECHO LEAGUE TRENT DIVISION

Grays Athletic 3 Cobra B 1

Goalscorers: Edmunds, Stopher, Price

Grays grabbed another well earned 3 points against a strong Cobra team who were vying for top spot if they had won.

The game started evenly with tackles coming in from both sides but Grays broke the deadlock after 10 mins of the first half. Edmunds collected the ball on the right wing and struck a low hard shot past the opposing keeper and this goal was the difference going into half time. Cobra came out fighting in the second half and equalised through their lively forward after a scramble in the Grays defence. After this setback the boys gained back their composure and soon retook the lead. With five minutes to go Price ran down the left and produced a great cross for Stopher who put the ball away at the far post. Grays were still not finished and Price again run through the defence and this time blasted the ball past the keeper at his near post.

Another 3 points today keeps the boys in top spot and another good performance away to Pegasus next week is a must.

Man-of-the-Match: Price

Chafford Hundred Lions 0 Grays Athletic Blue 2
Goalscorers: Jex, Hobbins

Although the scoreline might suggest otherwise this was, in truth, an easy victory against the top team. Grays again found their passing game and dominated from start to finish restricting Chafford Hundred to one effort on goal. Jex, with his sixth goal of the season, and new signing Hobbins put Grays 2 up and allowed them to settle and play the ball around. Although they should have added to the total it was still a good performance which puts them 3 points off of top spot with 2 games in hand.

A great game for Grays but with a first half penalty against us we lost our first game and our unbeaten run, the boys all tried hard but were unlucky this time.

Well tried boys, lets look forward to our next game.

Grays Athletic 0 v 2 Chalvedon Boys A

The boys played a good game of football today, but could not find the back of the net. Chalvadon are a good side and the Grays boys made them battle hard for their win. Charlie again made some great saves and the boys did not give up trying.

Well done boys, keep your heads up. look forward to next week.
