Under 9
U9 Football Tournament

The Grays Athletic U9 Yellows entered their first ever tournament at Hullbridge Sports.

The squad were under pressure from the start with 2 players being let go by the Manager recently and two others being absent through injury and prior commitments. Jerman a trialist and T.Potter (an U8 player) were added to the team to give sufficient numbers for the day.

The Yellows were drawn in the toughest group with the second and third placed team from the SEEPMSL 1st Division. It would be interesting to see how they would fare.

Chelmsford U14 Knockout Cup Final -13 May 2007

Grays Athletic 4 Roneo Colts 2
Goalscorers: Eggleton 2, Hamlyn & Scott

MoM: Pitty

On a wet and heavy pitch, Grays got off to a flying start winning a corner within the first 3 minutes. Cranefield swung over the corner to the back post and Scott rose above the defenders, heading past the keeper into the net. Grays failed to take advantage and midway through the first half Roneo equalised. The Roneo forward run onto a pass and struck a shot from the edge of the box and was tipped onto the post by the diving grays keeper only for the ball to rebound back out and hit him and deflect into the back of his net. As half time beckoned Roneo were pressing forward but could not find there way through the resolute defence.

Second half Grays came out and settled the quicker and tookcontrol of the game. A good passing move led to Hamlyn having a shot at goal only for it to fall into the path of Eggleton to prod the ball home for Grays 2nd goal and his 50th goal of the season. 6 minutes later Grays got a 3rd goal with Hamlyn hitting a shot into the roof of the net from 10y yards out after good build up play. Midway through the half Grays hit the fourth with Eggleton shooting past the keeper from the edge of the box. With 7 minutes remaining Roneo got a consolation goal but by then Grays were deserved winners on there second half performance.

Its been a good season for the Under 14s who completed a league and cup double. Congratulations to the squad and management on a very successfull season.

Under 13s Win RT Tours Football Tournament.

Grays Athletic U13s became RT Tours Caister Cup Champions, playing eight games in two days without conceding a single goal. The team had to dig in on the second day after getting off to a flyer on the first day only dropping 2 points out of a possible 12. But after a little wobble the boys responded winning there last group match 5-0 to take them into the final against Chase Side from Enfield London. The final was played at high tempo where Grays Athletic scored from a corner with a stooping header from Popoola at the far post. Grays held the lead to take the cup with a 1-0 victory. Paul Vaughan would like to say thanks to Alan Butler for all his help, to all the parents for their support and the players who played so well over the two days.
