Grays Athletic suffered their second successive defeat, they went down 2-0 in the first 15minutes, on 20minutes Lamb let fly a superb 20yrd strike which wrong footed the keeper, then Timothy got onto a loose ball 10 mins from half-time to level the scores.
The second half saw Grays have several shots on goal but were denied each time, unfortunately Brentwood got their noses in front again and Grays seemed to put their heads down and allowed Brentwood to double their half time tally, Grays never stopped working but still could not find the back of the net.

Goalscorers: Price, Stopher, OG, S.Pumfrett
The boys continued their good form with a comfortable win over Barn Sports. Price opened the scoring with a crisp shot that found the botton left hand corner and Stopher tapped in a second just before half time after a superb Bearman shot had hit the crossbar.
The boys came out for the second half but their two goal lead was soon cut in half by a successful penalty after Le^Rogers handled in the area.
The team dug in deep and they soon had a 2 goal cushion again when a Barn Sports defender put into his own net from a Grays corner.Still pressing Grays added a fourth when S.Pumfrett struck home to send the boys home in good spirits.

For the second week running Grays dominated a game they should have won easily, but in the end were grateful for a draw. Following a goalless first half Signet went ahead from a corner headed in unchallenged. Grays continued to bombard the Signet goal but could not convert any of the numerous chances until the final kick of the game when Bundock hammered home from close range.

The pressure stayed on the Island girls with 2 more goals from Rhianna H making it a hattrick and Bella G also added to the score sheet after a great performance in midfield.
Player of the match went to Ellesha S for outstanding performance in defence.

Goalscorer: Josh
The 1 - 0 scoreline hides the fact that Grays were realistically never in any real danger of losing this match.
The match however was a scrappy affair with the ball spending a lot of time up in the air, not on the ground as Grays like to play.
The solitary goal was scored in the first half by Josh, beating the on-rushing keeper in a crowded box with a deft left footed flick.
Grays remain unbeaten and top of the Echo league.

GRAYS ATHLETIC U10 FRIENDLY 22nd September @ St.Cleres
Grays (Echo League) 4 Grays (Thundermite) 0
Goalsscorers: Klessa-Smith(hat trick), own goal
A friendly was arranged between 2 Grays U10 teams , the Echo League Team and the Thundermite Asteroids Division Team. The game was played over two 25 minute halves. A goal from Klessa-Smith (Echo U10 team) divided the two teams at half time. Klessa-Smith added another 2 goals in the second half to complete his hat trick and an own goal from a superb Price free-kick made it 4-0 at the final whistle. The Grays U10 Echo team produced a super display after a mediocre start to their league campaign and looked forward to the following days league game away at Collier Row.

Collier Row 0 Grays Athletic 8
Goalscorers: Klessa-Smith , Price (both hat tricks), Edmonds and S.Pumfrett
A simply superb effort from the lads today as they thumped a majestic eight past Collier Row. Missing defender Potter and goalkeeper Dale due to illness the remaining members of the squad pulled together and played magnificently. A goal from striker S.Pumfrett after 1 minute set the tone for the game and for the remaining 39 minutes it was all one-way traffic.Klessa-Smith then missed a penalty after a handball.Strangely though Grays failed to double the lead until the 17th minute with a goal from Edmonds and then they scored a third from Price just before half-time. The second half started the same as the first when Price added a quick fourth after 2 minutes in and then completed his hat-trick three minutes later.Klessa-Smith then joined in with 3 goals to also get a hat-trick and complete a 8-0 rout.

Goalscorers: Jack, Reagan
In their first league game of the season a goal in either half from Jack and Reagan saw Grays run out worthy winners in a match they controlled from the start. So much was Grays domination in the first half especially that Tyler in the Grays goal hardly touched the ball, and they should have led by far more than the solitary goal poked in by Jack after a goalmouth melee. In the second half Grays, playing up the slope against a strong wind, continued to play controlled football but it wasn't until the last minute that Reagan wrapped up the points from close range.

Grays had an unfortunate start to the season after being placed in the top division of the Thundermite League.
Their first game playing in the League left them with a 4-2 defeat. Grays went 1-0 down within a couple of minutes of play, the boys continued to battle and managed to level it up with a goal from Ben.W.
Hutton continued to fight, putting another 2 goals in the back of the net. Grays came out fighting in the second half trying to get back their winning streak they started in pre season tournaments and friendlies. Ben.W scored his second goal (a penalty).
As Grays were chasing for another goal, Hutton scored their 4th. Today was not to be their day.
Keep your head up boys.

Grays Athletic suffered a defeat in their first game since moving up from Division 4, the first half saw Grays with the majority of posession and but for some great goalkeeping from the opposition keeper should have been infront, the first half finished 2-1 to Gidea Park, they took their lead through a fantastic 25yrd free kick.
The start of the second half was another good show from Grays Athletic but the foot came off the gas and lack of fitness from some of the playes started to show and we ended up having 3 more goals against us, credit to the Grays players though as they continued to push forward rather than sitting back defensive, but today was not to be their day.

Grays followed on from last weeks good result with another win.
The scoring was opened on 15 minute when Ross got the last touch on a ball in the area to put Grays 1 - 0 up. The score stayed that way until half time.
Corringham battled hard for an equaliser but Grays increased their lead 16 minutes into the second half when Rykie broke into the box and latched onto a superb flicked on pass from Josh.
The game was effectively killed off 2 minutes later when George won the ball in midfield and picked out Josh who was wide on the right. Josh hit a great looping shot from outside the area that sailed in over the keeper.
Corringham Cosmos were worthy opponents and never let Grays settle into their stride.

The boys were taught a hard lesson in defending today as we gifted all 3 goals to Rippleway.
The first goal came after the ball was not cleared and the second after a pass across the penalty box was intercepted. The boys came out for the second half but were soon 3-0 down. S.Pumfrett hit the bar with a header and the game tilted slightly towards Grays. Price pulled a goal back with a crisp shot but it turned out to be only a consolation.

The boy's kept their positions and made some excellent passes, with Charlie making some great saves and keeping another clean sheet.

Goalscorers: L Wright A Coburn
A good start for the blues against a very difficult side, Grays took a lead mid way through the first half through some excellent right hand wing play with a cross for L Wright to nod home from close range by the far post. Grays got pegged back shortly before the break. After some halftime changes Grays never looked any trouble but found it difficult to break down Chelmsford, until sub A coburn came on and hit on the volley a 20 yard drive to seal the points.

The boys started off their league campaign with a disappointing showing against EMH @ Brittons Farm Rainham. After a successful 2006/07 season in the Thundermite League the team have switched to the Echo League to gain more experience and seek further challenges.
The game though was a scrappy, non-event as neither team showed any desire to take the upper hand. It was EMH who had several half chances but nothing to trouble Dale in goal. At the other end Grays had minimal impact on the EMH defence and never troubled the opposing goalkeeper. The boys played a tournament 24 hours earlier and perhaps this had an effect on the fluency of their game as they never really got going.Still it was a good point in which the boys can build on for the forthcoming matches.
The next game is a home game at St.Cleres against Barn Sports.

Grays scorers Onye, Tyler, Josh, James
Grays started this year‘s campaign with a good win away against Corringham Athletic.
Grays opened the scoring on 17 minutes when a free kick was spilled by the keeper only for Onye to fire the loose ball into the net.
The second goal came on 25 minutes. Josh floated a corner in for Tyler to rise in the box and head a great ball down and under the keeper.
Grays went into a 3 goal lead on 28 minutes. A great through ball saw Josh running onto it and bravely beating the on rushing keeper, getting clattered in the process, only to put the ball into the net. Great courage by both players.
On the stroke of half time Corringham were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. The resulting strike leaving Alex with no chance.
Half time 1 - 3
Grays 4th goal came 18 minutes into the second half. James had moved into the centre of midfield and his battling qualities saw him score with a run and a deflected shot.
Corringham never gave up, and on 30 minutes were rewarded with a second goal. I‘m sure everyone will agree that the goal was a complete fluke. A cross/shot from tight on the bye line from a falling player saw the ball loop up and float over Alex, into the goal just inside the far post.
Keep it up Grays!

Essex Royals Tournament Under 12
September 4, 2007 7:38 PM

Grays Athletic Youth (forthcoming seasons U12‘s) retained the trophy they won here last year.
The boys were yet again unbeaten en-route to the final despite being drawn into a tough group containing other Echo league premier teams.
Grays finished the group stages as runners up.
The boys were flagging in the heat for the semi final against Colchester Villa, the game being a draw at full time and extra time, but Grays eventually ran out comfortable 4 - 1 winners on penalties.
Grays met local rivals Corringham Athletic in the final. Grays dominated the first half and went into the break 1 - 0 up courtesy of Jame's great play and finish. Corringham rallied in the second half but were unable to overhaul a rejuvenated Grays team.
Grays scored 12 goals in the tournament and conceded only 2. Tyler was the overall leading Grays goal scorer with 4 goals, all scored in the same match! Well done Tyler.
Yet again it was a good tournament played in a sporting manner by all teams.
Roll on next year!
