Brentwood Town 1-1 Grays Athletic after extra time, Brentwood win 4-3 on penalties

It was a disappointment evening for the young Blues at the Brentwood Centre last night Wednesday 3rd October in a game that provided plenty of entertaining football . Two quality strikes in two minutes in the first half saw the game deadlocked after 120 minutes of football.
Brentwood made the better start to the evening pushing Blues back they came close to opening the scoring inside the first two minutes, a goal bound shot deflected for a corner. Liam Tuity in the Blues goal made a smart save from a well worked Brentwood corner to keep the scores intact.

After the early pressure Blues began to assert themselves, Bill Purdy up front looked lively holding the ball up well to bring other players into the game. Blues approach play was neat and measured but the final ball was found wanting.

The 25th minute saw Blues go in front with a great 25 yard strike from Furu Gogo Ibiama, two minutes later and Brentwood were level with another shot from distance.

The game ebbed and flowed through the first period, in the second half it was Blues who dominated proceedings laying siege to the home goal. Purdy was unlucky with a thunderous drive cannoning of the post.

Chances came and went for both sides with the keepers making some fine saves, Blues had a great shout for a penalty turned down by a rather officious referee and a goal disallowed for offside.

With the scores level after 90 minutes the game went into extra time , Brentwood could have won the game in the dying minutes when they wasted two glorious chances, but with no further scores the match went to penalties with Brentwood emerging the winners 4-3.
