Match Report: Great Bradfords Ladies 2–3 Grays Athletic Ladies
Venue: Away – Great Bradfords
Date: Saturday 12th October
Grays Athletic Ladies produced a spirited comeback on the road, overturning a two-goal deficit to claim a fantastic 3–2 victory against Great Bradfords Ladies in a thrilling afternoon of football.
The game began on a tricky surface, with the long grass making it difficult for Grays to get their usual passing rhythm going. Despite that, the team looked confident and settled quickly. After a flowing move, Alisha burst through on goal only to be brought down by the keeper just outside the box. A free-kick was awarded, but surprisingly the Bradfords keeper escaped without even a yellow card — despite clearly denying a goalscoring opportunity.
Grays continued to dominate much of the first half, but an error gave the hosts an unexpected lead. Things got worse just before the break when Alisha was caught in another heavy challenge, hobbling off with what looked like an ankle injury. At half-time, fears grew that she might not return, and Grays were forced to tweak their formation.
The second half began with renewed determination. Even without Alisha for the opening stages, Grays pinned Bradfords back and looked the stronger side. However, another error saw the ball fall kindly for a Bradfords striker, who slotted it home to make it 2–0.
That setback sparked the reaction Grays needed. Lois carried the ball powerfully out of defence, driving forward before finding Rae, who unleashed another trademark screamer from distance — a stunning strike to make it 2–1 and ignite the comeback.
Moments later came the boost everyone wanted: Alisha declared herself fit to continue and immediately caused problems again. Her persistence paid off when she was fouled inside the box — this time a clear penalty. She dusted herself down and coolly slotted home into the corner to level the score at 2–2.
With momentum fully on their side, Grays went hunting for the winner — and it came in style. Sammie stepped up with a thunderous strike from range, rifling the ball home to complete a dramatic turnaround and secure a well-deserved 3–2 victory.
It was a performance full of character, fight, and togetherness — the kind of display that shows exactly what this Grays side is made of. A brilliant comeback and three points to take home.
