This Saturday, Grays Athletic are back in league action at Tilbury, with Walthamstow FC the visitors. After the disappointing loss last weekend at New Salamis, Blues will be looking to get back on the winning trail against a side making their presence felt this season, back at this level.
The Stow currently sit ninth in the league table, a position I am sure they would have taken at the start of the season. Ten wins and six draws already represents a fine return. The only criticism, if one can be levelled, is that they haven’t managed to string together a run of results to put real pressure on the play-off places.
The Walthamstow squad contains a few names familiar to Blues fans - Brian Moses-Songolo, Callum Ibe, Adalberto Pinto and the evergreen Jared Small. No doubt, they will all be looking to impress at the expense of their old team.
Earlier in the season, at Wadham Lodge, the points were shared. Damaray Anyadike put the Stow ahead half way through the second half, but Blues rescued a late point thanks to David Knight.
Walthamstow’s last six games have a real sense of symmetry about them: two 2-0 wins, two 2-0 defeats and two 2-2 draws ! So both they and Grays sit in the middle of the current form table. Something, you would think, has to give.
Another tight encounter looks likely.
Come on you Blues
