With the season soon drawing to a close, on Saturday afternoon, Blues take one final trip up the A12 to take on our old friends from Witham Town FC.
The Town currently sit fourteenth in the league table, just two places but nine points ahead of Grays Ath. Witham are coming off a cruel late-season run of fixtures, having played all of the top six sides in their last seven games. Not surprisingly therefore, their recent results have been something of a mixed bag, with a great 3-0 win against Walthamstow and a goalless draw with Brentwood - but otherwise drawing a blank. This line of fixtures was interestingly broken only by a game against bottom of the table, Stowmarket, which also ended in a draw. Our two sides are therefore side-by-side in the form table.
The reverse encounter earlier in the season, was one of the Blues better performances, on a January Tuesday night under the lights at Tilbury. An early penalty converted by Kian Connolly was equalised before half time by former Blue, Josh Osude. But after the break, a goal from Billy Crook and a last gasp conversion by Charlie Stimson, meant Blues ran out 3-1 winners.
Last Saturday, Witham, like Grays before them, conceded a late winner away at Felixstowe & Walton, in a game that finished 10-a-side.
With a strong last couple of games, Witham still have the chance to climb a place or two up the end of season table, so they will be looking to finish strongly and Blues will need to show more than in recent weeks if they are to return home with the spoils.
