On Tuesday evening under the lights at Tilbury, Grays Ath try for the third time to play their home league fixture against Essex rivals Brightlingsea.
Saturday’s 2-0 win for the Blues against Redbridge was a real confidence booster, going into a run of games up to and over the Easter weekend.
Brightlingsea’s first season back at this level, after relegation from the Premier Division can be divided into two distinct parts. Prior to Christmas, their performances suggested a prompt return back to a higher level, chasing the pace-setters hard. However, since the festive break, results have taken a distinct turn for the worse and they currently sit near the foot of the form table. However, a 2-1 home win on Saturday against league leaders, Lowestoft Town, raised a few eyebrows across the division.
The return fixture at North Road in early November saw two first half goals for Brightlingsea from Jake Thompson and a Michael Finneran own goal answered after the break by a Sam Bantick penalty, but the home side held their lead for a 2-1 victory.
Brightlingsea have two former Grays players in their ranks. Eljay Worrell, pulled on a Blue shirt in the early 2010s, whilst Marlon Agyakwa will be familiar to more recent Blues fans.
The game promises to be a close one, with both sides eager for the three points to turn round their fortunes.
Hopefully, the weather stays kind and the game goes ahead.
Come on you Blues !
