Blues fresh from their win over Romford on Wednesday evening are back on the road when they travel to Burroughs Park to meet Great Wakering Rovers.
Rovers have made an encouraging start to the season sitting in seventh place in the table with four wins a draw and three defeats from their eight games. They opened the campaign with an impressive away win at Felixstowe & Walton following that up with a home win over Tilbury. They then suffered two defeats against Coggeshal Town and Dereham Town but bounced back with away wins at Witham Town and Romford. In their last two league outings a draw at Basildon United was followed by a heavy defeat at league new boys Histon. The corresponding fixture in February resulted in a 2-2 draw, Rovers equalising with a disputed penalty in the 90th minute converted by Jake Gordon - his second of the afternoon after goals from Mitch Hahn and Adalberto Pinto had put Blues in front. Undoubtedly the needless red card awarded to Kieran Bishop did have an affect on the outcome. Incidentally featuring for Rovers that day was our own Macauley Joynes and it could be that Adalberto Pinto is in Rovers starting eleven tomorrow!
After two below par performances Blues bounced with a resounding win and improved performance against Romford. A brace each for Joao Carlos making him the league leading scorer and debutant George Purcell, his first a stunning free kick put the game beyond Boro'. Jim Cooper will be looking for more of the same tomorrow, with Maldon in FA Cup action a Blues win will see them top the table for the first time this season. It will be a tough game, Rovers are a much improved outfit under Steve Butterworth they will be looking to get back to winning ways Blues therefore must be at the best on the day to come away with the points.
