Blues make the trip to the seaside this Saturday when they meet Felixstowe & Walton in a BetVictor league encounter. The Goldstar Ground was a happy hunting ground for them last season when they came away with a 3-1 win featuring a stunning volley from Joao Carlos in the FA Trophy , and a 2-1 win in the league, no doubt fans will be hoping for more of the same.
The Seasiders made an impressive start to life last season in the then Bostik North League following promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League but so far this season they have struggled to regain that momentum and languish in eighteenth place with just eight points from their twelve matches. Matters off the field have not helped following a change in management with Stuart Boardley and Andy Crump assuming first team management duties. It would appear the management changes have had an adverse impact in terms of results which sometimes happens as the team adjusts to a new regime with just two league wins this season the last coming against Cambridge City in mid September, however when you analyse results they have mainly met teams who are expected to challenge for promotion this season . The feeling is though that it won't be too long before results pick and the Seasiders move up the table , certainly on the basis of the three meetings between the teams last season they are a side not to be underestimated and Blues will have to be at their best to gain a result.
After a break last Saturday and two cup games this will be Blues first league outing since the 3-1 reverse at Maldon & Tiptree, a game in which they gifted the Jammers a two goal start but came back strongly in the second half grabbing a goal back and could have snatched an equaliser. But Maldon showed their pedigree going on to add a third late on. It's been a tough time lately after such a good start to the season with just one win in the last four league games but in mitigation the team has been hit by injuries and suspensions causing selection problems for Jim Cooper. For tomorrows game It would appear the only definite absentee is Tony Stokes who hopefully will be back in action in the not too distant future. There have also been changes in personnel with Connor Martin, Luke Callander and Stan Muguo departing and the arrival of Ryan Sammons who will add steel and backbone to the squad.
