Goals from the midfield quartet of Jared Small, Kenny Beaney, Danny Bunce and Leon Lalite help to see off Potters Bar TownDanny Bunce did well down the left wind to get passed two Potter Bar players before driving into the penalty area. He got to the byline before cutting the ball back to Jared Small at the far post. The chance looked to have gone when he took a touch allowing the defence and goalkeeper to get in position but Jared Small unleashed a powerful effort into the far corner to give Grays the lead.
Grays doubled their lead in the 33rd minute as a corner from the right by Joao Carlos was swung into the front post where Kenny Beaney was left inexplicably unmarked to head into the top corner of the net.
If the homes fans thought that was the end of the game as a contest they were mistaken as Potter Bar got back into the game in bizarre fashion.
In the 36th minute, a free kick just inside his own half by Lee Close was fired into the Grays penalty area and as everyone missed the ball it skipped up off the slick outfield to land in the top corner of the net.
Grays continued to push forward looking to restore their two goal advantage and came close in the 56th minute. Kenny Beaney created space for himself on the corner of the Potter Bar area and his left footed curling effort looked to be heading for the far corner of the net until Ed Thompson at full stretch tipped the ball over the bar.
The home side almost got a fluke goal of their own on the hour mark as Danny Bunce crossed from the left hand side, the ball looping over Ed Thomspon in the Potters Bar goal but was hooked off the line by a defender.
Grays did finally restore their two goal lead in the 71st minute as Jack West played in Danny Bunce down the centre. As a Potter Bar defender came across to cover, Danny Bunce let the ball run across his body, complete wrong footing the defender a firing into the top corner of the net from the edge of the area.
The game was wrapped up the 81st minute as the ball broke to Leon Lalite on the edge of the area and he fired into the roof of the net for his first ever Grays goal and ensuring all four midfielders got on the score sheet.
With Maldon & Tiptree failing to beat Romford at home, drawing 1-1, their lead at the top looks ever more precarious as Grays continue to hunt them down.
