It took until the 13th minute of the game before either side could fashion a chance of note, as a Grays attack broke down in the Enfield half and the away side countered quickly.
Mark Kirby, who initially helped win the ball back for his team on the edge of his own area, was the furthest man forward as a break down the right saw Grays exposed and the shot from the edge of the area was pushed away by George Kamurasi in the Grays goal.
Grays were caught cold at the back again in the 16th minute as a long clearance from a Grays corner found Tyler Campbell through on goal. He carried the ball to the edge of the area before shooting, but George Kamurasi was off his line quickly to smother the shot and clear to safety.
The home sides first real effort at goal came in the 23rd minute as Aaron Ramos-Gonzalez did well down the right wind, before cutting the ball back to Leon Lalite. His square pass found Lee Flynn twenty-five yards from goal and his first time shot look destined for the top corner of the net, only for Daniel East to get fingertips on the ball and keep the scores level.
With only five minutes of the first half remaining, Enfield again came close to taking the lead. Adam Wallace picked up a loose ball in the Grays half and attacked towards goal. He broke through the defence and towards goal, but again George Kamurasi was out well to block the shot.
In injury time of the first half, Enfield finally beat George Kamurasi in the Grays goal as Mark Kirby unleashed another vicious strike from the edge of the area, but his shot cannoned off the cross bar and away to safety.
Grays came out in the second half determined to get closer to Enfield and put their players under more pressure than they managed in the first half.
This was highlighted in the 54th minute as a long ball forward was closed down by Joao Carlos, who blocked a clearance and ran through on goal. With Daniel East off his line, Joao Carlos went for a deft chip over the keeper, but the ball went agonisingly over the crossbar.
Enfield replied with another chance of their own in the 56th minute as a long throw from the left was delivered into the six yard box on the Grays penalty area, where Liam Hope found space but his header was straight at George Kamurasi was saved again.
The away side were made to pay for all their missed chances as Grays countered from the missed header, with Joao Carlos attacking down the left wing to the edge of the Enfield box. His shot was straight at Daniel East who fumbled the ball and Jared Small was on hand to tap home the loose ball.
Grays doubled their lead just three later as Leon Lalite intercepted a pass in midfield before firing a low pass through the heart of the Enfield defence. Jack West reacted well to control the ball first time on the edge of the area and fired passed Daniel East in the Enfield goal before he had a chance to react.
The two goals in quick succession knocked the fight out of Enfield who offered little in attack for a long period.
The best chance of note came to Grays in the 72nd minute as Joao Carlos was played through on goal by Jack West, but his low show was parried by Daniel East with no-one following in on the rebound.
Enfield fleeting looked to get back in the game and a free kick in the 77th minute by Liam Hope was again close as George Kamurasi had to dive at full stretch to push the ball onto the post before gathering the rebound.
Grays saw out the remainder of the game with relative ease and a composure that was reminiscent of the Chelsea side defending a two goal lead for long periods in Jose Mourinho’s first stint as manager.
Despite some fans displeasure at this type of football, no-one will be disappointed with three wins from three and sitting joint top of the league with Kingstonian.
