Blues were made to work hard for their victory against a very good Felixstowe team but Blues clinical finishing ultimately decided the outcome . The autumnal conditions were not ideal so it was a credit to both teams that they still managed to provide exciting entertainment for the fans. Two goals in rapid succession in the first period had a significant impact on the final outcome and although the Seasiders had their opportunities they couldn't capitalise on them. Danny Sambridge's saves and a third a brilliant free kick from David Knight ensured Blues retained their unbeaten home record and top spot in the table.
The visitors made a bright start forcing a corner inside the first minute which came to no avail but undeterred they continued to press,The impressive Henry Barley was the main focus of their forward momentum teasing Macca Joynes who stuck to his task valiantly.
Blues eventually roused and when they did it was Aron Gordon who featured prominently scurrying down the flank occupying the attention of Armani Schaar . Anointed Chukwu set up Blues first real opportunity for Knight who's first time effort was blocked by keeper Callum Robinson's legs.
It was end to end action and once again Barley was the key figure twice forcing Sambridge into smart saves ,the question was who could get their noses in front , Gordon provided the key to answering that. Playing a clever ball through to Chukwu the big striker showed a delicate touch to draw Robinson and stroke the ball home to break the deadlock on 25 minutes.
A minute later Blues struck again, Freddie Moncur wriggled his way to the byeline laying the ball back to Joe Paxman who touched the ball past Robinson. The goal produced a period of dominance but still the visitors looked lively but again good approach play was let down by weak finishing.
HT 0-2
With the elements in their favour Felixstowe penned Blues back for periods looking for a way back into the contest forcing a number of corners but failed to create a clear opening. Any forward momentum for Blues was nullified by the increasingly deteriorating conditions also hampering the Seasiders approach work with the ball frequently running out of play inducing a scrappy period .
Oliver Canfer who was orchestrating proceedings tested Sambridge with a shot from distance the keeper turning the ball onto the crossbar and gratefully grabbing the rebound, another point blank save again frustrated the visitors.
The old cliche that the next goal would have a significant impact on the final outcome was never truer as the game reached a critical stage. Blues to a man battled the elements their one vision to protect the two goal cushion and after weathering the early pressure enjoyed a share of the play. Schaar though produced a moment of concern with a fleet footed, run flashing a low cross which failed to find a striped shirt.
With ten minutes remaining and Blues now seeing more of the ball sub Danny Gould went down under a heavy challenge on the edge of the 18 box winning a free kick, up stepped Knight to dispatch a sublime shot past a static Robinson to wrap up the points for Blues.
The goal visibly deflated the visitors allowing Blues to play out the remaining minutes controlling the pace of the game and ensure they maintained top spot in the table.
