Grays Athletic welcome Barking FC to Parkside this Saturday (5/3/2022) in the Isthmian PitchingIn league North Fixture.
Grays Athletic go into the match following a two week break after last Saturday's match away against Hullbridge FC was cancelled due to safety concerns ( now re-arranged for Tuesday 29th march, KO 7:45pm). The Blues are on a fine run of form winning 4 of their last five matches. The Blues currently sit in the 4th place play off position on 52 points, 7 points off 3rd placed Aveley FC, 8 points off 2nd placed Stowmarket Town, and 9 points off 1st placed Canvey Island FC.
Our opponents Barking FC who after a fine start to the season now find themselves in a relegation battle at the tail end of the table. They have lost 5 of their last five matches including going down 1-0 to the Blues on the 15th February thanks to a Lewis Clark Goal. They currently sit in 19th place.
Grays Athletic are delighted to be welcoming The Offside Trust to Parkside ahead of our match against Barking FC. In November 2016, British football was rocked by a series of high-profile revelations regarding child sexual abuse. Several former professional players bravely waived their right to anonymity to speak out about their past abuse. A number of those involved, decided to set up the Offside Trust, an organisation committed to supporting survivors and working to make sport safer for children. We welcome The Offside Trust to the match.
The club will also be welcoming the Grays Athletic Women's Team, Grays Athletic Girls U14's, Grays Athletic Girls u13's and the Grays Athletic Wildcats to the match as we celebrate International Women's Day 2022. The club would like to send its sincere thanks and appreciation to all our female players, staff, volunteers and supporters.
The club was extremely saddened to receive the news that lifelong supporter Martin Candler passed away last weekend. Many of our supporters will remember Martin as our travel coach organiser during our conference days, a wonderful man who always had time to talk and chat. Martin will be missed by everyone at the club.
As a sign of respect the club will hold a minutes applause ahead of the match on Saturday.
