Midfielder Mark Bentley steps into a playing/coaching role as Assistant Manager to Andy Swallow

The former Southend United midfielder joined the Blues at the end of August and has impressed when operating in midfield or defence this season. Andy Swallow named Bentley as his number two after tonight's match at Barkingside. Swallow made it clear that while his own tenure is an interim measure the appointment of Bentley is 'until further notice.'

Despite the departure of coaches Garth Good and Ed Wooten, David Raven will continue in his role as coach and scout while u21s coach Jeff Wheeler will provide support where needed. Jack Hughes (physio) and Sim Madgewick (training and matchday assistant) also remain on the staff.

Bentley, also a coach at Leyton Orient, is well respected in the dressing room and his appointment will help steady the ship in the wake of Jody Brown's sudden departure at the weekend.

There has been considerable interest in the managerial vacancy but Swallow said late on Monday evening that there will be no further announcements regarding the matter until January when the club learns the fate about the proposed move to a new stadium in Grays.
