Grays have beaten landlords Aveley 2-1 at Mill Field to reach the last eight of the Robert Dyas League Cup

Grays were the hosts on a cold January night but it was the visitors that took the lead in the 9th minute through Anton Stephenson. The lead lasted all of 2 minutes before Joao Carlos equalised.

Four minutes into the second half Jeff Hammond scored what proved to be the winner. Jack West was sent off for the 2nd time this season with a little over 20 minutes remaining but the Grays defence, including manager Ryan Kirby, held out to secure the win for Blues.

Youngster Kevin Kwarteng was a late substitute as Grays continue to bring through the youth players for some much needed experience as we reach a critical stage of the season.

Grays will host Chatham Town in the quarter final, who were 2-1 winners against Cray Wanderers tonight.
