Jeff Hammond has joined the Club, following a brief spell at Conference South side Billericay Town.

The powerful striker decided to leave league rivals Harlow Town a fortnight ago, after Blues had approached the Hawks with a seven day notice. He had been set to sign for the club, but with attention from the Conference South new boys, Hammond understandably wanted to play at a higher level, saying:

“I was supposed to sign for Grays after the seven day approach, but I received an offer from Billericay at the last minute. I thought I owed it to myself to give it a try, but it hasn't worked out so far. I'm grateful for the chance that Craig Edwards gave me, but Hakan sold the club to me, and I'm now looking forward to enjoying my football, playing in a team full of good players.”

Of his new signing, manager Hakan Hayrettin said:

“I’m very happy that after targeting him for a while, we eventually got him to sign for the club. He’s a very good acquisition to the squad, who comes with a good pedigree, and is one who is worthy of wearing the blue of Grays Athletic. I’m sure he will be a huge success at the club.”
The player’s registration was completed on Friday, and he is free to make his debut for the club on Saturday afternoon.

In 13 appearances for the Hawks this season, he has scored 6 goals.
