GraysAthletic 1 3 Ramsgate

Blues concede three sloppy goals as Rams run out winners in final preseason fixture writes The Mariner.

Grays once again fielded a number of trialists in their final game before the real business of league football starts in earnest next Saturday.

Blues were missing a number players who manager Jamie Stuart would expect to be in his starting eleven and therefore not too much should be read into todays result. The game turned on the substitution of keeper Charlie Crowley trialist keeper Enoch being culpable for all three goals.

The game was played under difficult conditions with the heat and bumpy pitch causing problems for both sides.

Neither keeper was tested in the opening period despite good approach play,Sam Baffour looked lively for the Blues his pace will cause defenders problems but he will need to improve his delivery into the box.

New signing Hafeez Sanusi looked a good acquisition commanding in the air and with good feet for a big man, together with Jake Hutchings they have the potential to become a good defensive pairing.

Trialist Billy Medlock ex Hastings and Tonbridge Angels showed some neat touches, playing in his first game since sustaining a nasty injury he could be the sort of player Blues are looking for once he gets back to full fitness.

Half time came with neither side creating a goalscoring opportunity.

Both sides made a number of changes in the second period with the change of keeper for Grays being the key moment.

Ramsgate opened the scoring with a speculative 25 yard effort which lacked any power but deceived the motionless Blues keeper, shortly after another long range effort beat Enoch crashing against the bar and dropping to the feet of a Ramsgate forward who tapped home.

Blues did get one back following a deep cross into the box which the visitors keeper only half cleared allowing Jamie Maskell to sweep the ball home.

Ramsgate were then gifted a third goal when Blues keeper dibbled the ball round his area lost control the ball finding the feet of the visitors forward who made no mistake crashing the ball into the net.

Blues reverted to a 3 5 2 formation which allowed them to dominate possession in the final minutes.

For manager Stuart he will have formulated his own ideas of his starting eleven for next week having seen a number of trialists some of whom have taken their opportunity. There are still pieces of the jigsaw missing which he will I'm sure will be addressed, there will also still be a number of players who are as yet unsigned out there so one would expect more signings in the near future.
