Grays Athletic 0-2 Margate FC
Match report from Matt Abbott at the Thurrock Gazette
JODY Brown, the Grays Athletic manager, said his side should have got something from the game against Margate.
Blues lost 2-0 on Wednesday night, but Brown felt his side created more chances while limiting the league favorites to very few opportunities.
Charlie Allen gave the Kent side the lead in the 15th minute with a sumptuous 25-yard volley that looped over Conor Gough in the Grays goal.
And in the second period, Sam Rents scored from a 68th minute free-kick, intended as a cross, which Brown said was "needlessly" conceded.Blues created the better chances but lacked cutting edge. The game might have been different had Freddy Lapado taken Grays' best chance of the match in the 10th minute.
But he was denied by Nikki Bull, the Margate stopper, who put in an imperious and commanding display between the sticks - punching and catching any menacing Grays cross.
The home side enjoyed long spells of possession but failed to create enough gilt-edged chances.
The defeat leaves Brown waiting for his first win since taking up the reigns at Grays in June.
And after losing to Billericay on Saturday, it means Blues are yet to register a point or a goal, two games into the new campaign.
This was a promising display though, against a wealthy club tipped for success in the league this season.
Athletic host Leatherhead at Millfield on Saturday.
