GRAYS turned in a below par performance at Leatherhead who did enough to take all three Ryman Premier points in some comfort.
The home side had already grazed the crossbar through Adam Green’s speculative shot before they took the lead on 38 minutes when Green fired home a 25 yard free-kick after Becka Kah Dembele had been fouled.
Leatherhead doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when Vasileious Karagiannis picked out Paul Semakula who beat keeper Conor Gough with a sublime left foot drive from just outside the box.
Grays responded well and enjoyed a good spell, culminating in a goal on 68 minutes when Freddie Ladapo lobbed home keeper Louis Wells.
But hopes of a revival were quashed within a minute when Karagiannis produced a fine cross and Kieran Hughes-Mason was on hand to slot the ball past Gough from close range.
Grays battled hard to the end and as Leatherhead protected their lead might well have got back in it but Ladapo shot wide and then, in added time, Grays sub Aaron Wickham forced a fine save from Wells.
