report courtesy of Yourthurrock
GRAYS suffered the new year blues as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to AFC Hornchurch.
Conditions were difficult with a swirling wind and they were also difficult for manger- less Grays.
This was a game marked by Grays having plenty of opportunities but failing to take the chances.
Both Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson and Freddie Ladapo had good chances early on.
Hornchurch won several corners over the next half an hour but just could not convert.
Both sides continued to have their chances but it was the Urchins who took advantage. In the 75th minute, Junior Luke was able to stroke the ball into the met after an excellent pass from George Purcell.
George Purcell then killed the game off after he received an excellent pass from Tobi Joseph, and calmly slid the ball wide of keeper Connor Gough for the second goal.
Grays do not have long to re-group as they face Hampton and Richmond at home on Saturday at 3pm in Mill Field, Aveley.
