After their midweek victory against Witham Town, Grays Athletic look to maintain their winning ways with the visit of Wroxham FC to Tilbury on Saturday, in what looks an evenly-matched contest.
The current league form table can’t split the two sides. Both have taken six points from their last six games - Wroxham with one win and three draws; Blues, two wins. That run of results rather sums up the Yachtsmen’s form this season. To date, they have achieved five wins, six draws and eight losses, with a goal difference of zero. Fine wins against Felixstowe & Walton and Brightlingsea Regent have been balanced out with points dropped elsewhere.
The return fixture was played in Norfolk on a rather overcast afternoon in early October. Blues took the lead through Jordan Peart before the home side equalised just before the break, with a goal from season’s leading marksman Ryan Hawkins, one of the thirteen he has scored so far. Wroxham have also had a relatively settled side this season, far more than can be said of the Blues. They have nine players who have made more than 20 appearances to date. In contrast, Grays will have only a handful of players on the teamsheet who were also on the coach to Wroxham last autumn.
Both sides won their respective recent midweek fixtures. Grays produced a fine battling performance to overcome Essex neighbours, Witham Town, with a 3-1 win, to chalk up three much-needed league points. Wroxham were in county cup action , putting out Sheringham Town by the same scoreline.
It promises to be an intriguing encounter.
Come on you Blues
