Sorry Blues Dismal Run Continues

Lowestoft Town will probably not have an easier win this season when they were gifted three goals by a Grays side who lacked direction and purpose in probably their worst performance of this troubling season.With the exception of two or three players Blues went down without a whimper in what is becoming a troubling season.

The visitors started brightly winning a succession of free kicks inside the first five minutes which was a portent of things to come with Blues guilty throughout the encounter of committing a series of unnecessary infringements.

After the early pressure Blues started to enjoy more of the play with Hornsley's combative style unsettling the visitors defenders.

Lowestoft could have gone in front on the quarter hour mark when Jamie Stuart uncharacteristically missed his kick allowing Marsden to send in a dangerous cross which fortunately for Grays failed to find an attackers boot.

A rare home attack saw Adeyinka Cole fire wide after a good run across the Lowestoft area.Shortly after Hornsley had a golden opportunity to put Blues in front when he capitalised on a poor kick from visitors keeper Waite but his effort lacked accuracy and sailed wide of the goal.

Blues were making things difficult for themselves with passes either being under hit or failing to find their man allowing the visitors to break forward with Blues midfield caught in no mans land.Lowestoft in contrast were finding their man with ease playing the ball down the channels on either flank where they were given too much time and space.

Stuart should have done better from a corner after good work from Jamie Mascoll,he rose unchallenged at the far post but directed his header wide of the post.

In one of a series free kicks Lowestoft came close when Jarvis clipped the bar with Callum Thomas beaten, but they didn't have long to wait to open the scoring when Marsden took advantage of some poor defending finding himself unmarked in the area his mishit effort took a couple of bounces before crossing line in the 41st minute.

Just three minutes later and it was two nil,Stuart gave the ball away midway in the Grays half,the ball eventually found Marsden unmarked his shot lacked any power and trickled over the line as the Grays defence stood motionless like statues.

Both goals were symptomatic of goals scored in previous games all preventable allowing the opposition to score with ease.

Just as Saturday Blues made two changes in the hope of turning the tide and things started brightly sub Tayshan Hayden-Smith injected more pace which questions why he wasn't included from the outset.He nearly gave Blues a lifeline after the hardworking Hornsley sent in a great cross,Smith's header looked bound for the back of the net only to see the ball hit the beaten Waites shoulder and was cleared.

Lowestoft were looking comfortable with their two goal cushion content to sit back and hit on the break a tactic made easier by Blues carelessness with the ball too many times the ball was either given away or pumped aimlessly forward without any real direction

Marsden came close to completing his hat trick firing a snapshot just wide of the post. The visitors by now were asking all the questions spraying the ball from flank to flank with ease,the Blues midfield were allowing the visitors to pass and outrun them putting more pressure on the home defence.

It was no surprise then when the visitors scored their third of the evening on 83 minutes when Reed found the net after Grays allowed the ball to be played through midfield without a meaningful challenge.

Kyle Roberts a late substitution nearly bagged a late consolation goal for Blues in the dying minutes when he turned and saw his drive shave the upright.

The final whistle brought to and end a really disappointing evening for the Grays faithful and one wonders where the next win is coming from.Twenty-six goals conceded in just 10 games tells it's own story,too many of them down to basic defending and it seems lessons are not being learnt.

Next up is a difficult trip to Kingstonian on Sunday.
